According to the number of users on its network, MTN is the largest Mobile Network Operator in Nigeria and is prepared to introduce commercial Fifth Generation (5G) network services in Nigeria by the end of August 2022. The news to Roll out 5G services by August 2022 has been received with a lot of optimism in Nigeria, the most populous nation in Africa.
During yesterday’s Titans of Tech Awards, which TechTV hosted at the Oriental Hotel in Lagos, the Chairman of MTN Nigeria, Engr. Ernest Ndukwe made this announcement.
The former vice chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission, who served as the event’s chairman, said to attendees, “MTN Nigeria is ready for the commercial launch of 5G service in Nigeria by next month.”
For the deployment of the fifth-generation network in December 2021, MTN Nigeria is one of the two winners of two batches of 100 MHz TDD slots in the 3.5 GHz band.
The Nigerian Communications Commission has since issued letters of award to the two businesses, giving them till August 24, 2022, to begin commercial roll-out.
MTN conducted a trial launch of the 5G network in Abuja in 2019 and assured Nigerians that they would receive all the advantages associated with the rollout of 5G in the nation.
