Glovo has officially commenced operations in Nigeria, by launching a delivery app, as part of its ongoing market expansion plan and investment in Africa.
The multi-category on-demand delivery app is aimed at assisting customers with their urgent needs in congested cities throughout the world.
This follows the company’s recent closure of its Series F investment round, which raised €450 million, the largest raise by a start-up in Spain, where the company’s headquarters are based, according to a news release.
Nigeria, which is currently present in 23 countries throughout the world, has become the company’s greatest market in terms of population size. The company’s entry into the country also marks its presence in its third market in West Africa and its sixth African country overall.
Glovo locations to use the delivery app
Glovo is currently available in Morocco, Uganda, Kenya, Ghana, and Côte d’Ivoire, with over 40 cities, 300,000 users, 8,000 restaurants, and 12,000 couriers.
The app has six different categories that allow users to order things from supermarkets, pharmacies, and other places. To ensure optimum customer pleasure, the package delivery category includes independent logistics businesses. Users can request a rider on the platform to send or collect parcels, with tracking available through the app.
Tokunbo Ibrahim, Glovo’s Public Affairs Manager for Sub-Saharan Africa, said in a statement: “The desire for world-class shopping possibilities in Africa continues to grow.” Opening operations in Lagos, Nigeria’s economic hub and one of Africa’s major economies represent a significant step forward in our market expansion. Our company’s mission is to provide ease and efficiency to our users by using our platform’s technologies and collaborating with local partners. We will extend into additional cities as we grow, partnering with more local businesses and specialist shops to broaden our portfolio while effectively supporting Nigerian enterprises.”
“We couldn’t be more delighted to be expanding our services in Africa, to be bringing Glovo to new cities in Ghana and beginning in Tunisia,” said Sacha Michaud, Glovo’s Co-Founder. Our mission is to provide everyone with simple access to anything in their area, and our platform works best when it connects consumers and companies, the majority of which are small shops and eateries. We feel there is a great opportunity in these nations to help advance digitisation and fulfill the growing demand for online shopping and delivery, therefore we’re collaborating with our local partners to sell and deliver their products to new consumers through the app.”
