MTN Ghana has announced that it aims to spend roughly USD 200 million by the end of 2021, following an initial investment of USD 150 million. To know the details as to how MTN Ghana is to Spend 200 Million by end of 2021, read on.

The decision is based on the high demand for data, which has surged considerably since the coronavirus outbreak last year, according to Chief Executive Officer Selorm Adadevoh.

Speaking at the MTN Business Executive Breakfast Series- Special Edition on the theme: Conversation with MTN Ghana – 25 years for Brightening Lives and Beyond, CEO Adadevoh said MTN Ghana sees its continued investments in the country’s telecom space as a contribution to Ghana’s development in achieving its digital agenda.

MTN is committed to bridging the system’s present data capacity deficit by investing heavily in the space, according to him, because data is a critical engine of economic growth in many economies, including Ghana’s.

“Our commitment to Ghana as a country, as well as our ambition to continue to take risks, remains unchanged, and that continues to drive us with our existing investment,” he said.

Mr. Adadevoh expressed excitement in how MTN Ghana, in partnership with its vendors, has revolutionized the country’s tech landscape with innovative technologies, and hinted at a possible 5G network debut next year, when speaking about the country’s decades-long history of technology.

“Innovation has been a crucial pillar of MTN’s success and a key purpose for the company. We are continually aiming to be the first to introduce the next technology, not only in terms of being the first but also in terms of bringing that technology to market and creating value from it. So there’ll be 2G, 3G, 4G, and possibly 5G next year,” he said.

MTN’s ongoing investment in research, both locally and globally, as well as relationships with other suppliers, he believes, has helped the business stay on the cutting edge of technical innovation.

When discussing the introduction of the App development Hackathon Challenge, Ayoba added, “These are things we are supporting within the country and encouraging developers and start-ups within the ecosystem to also accelerate while we promote technological advancement within the country.”
